Carlton Town Lions 5 – 4 West Bridgford Harriers

Another must win game for the Lions if they want to achieve promotion! After a good start on a heavy pitch, Ousman Sagnia bagged himself a goal to get on the score sheet. Carlton were first to the ball and played some fast, neat football for the first 15 mins but the Harriers started to get more into the game and when the chance came, they levelled the score. 1-1 at halftime.

No one expected the second half to play out the way it did with end-to-end attacks and lots of excitement for the fans of both teams.

Carlton upped the tempo by starting to play the ball on the ground and a nice one two with Ousman Cham and Marcus Barton saw Ousman get his first goal for the Lions making it 2-1. West Bridgford once again managed to pull it back to 2-2 which then gave them belief and went on to take the lead for the first time in the game. 3-2.

With 15 minutes left, top goal scorer Dan Chambers took a free kick to level it 3-3.

Conor Pauley, in great form since his switch from Woodthorpe, went on to grab his 6th goal in 3 games for Carlton which put them in the lead at 4-3 with 7 minutes left. Carlton needed to just see the game out but with 1 minute left, West Bridgford pulled it back to make it 4-4. Some Carlton players were flat on the ground after the massive body blow but with 30 seconds left, the Lions gave it a final push with Dan Chambers sending a smashing free kick past the West Bridgford keeper the make it 5-4 to the Lions.

Carlton showed that they are serious contenders for the title and after today’s showing of passion and character, no one can argue with them.
