We were delighted to attend the Canoville Under 9s Cobras End of Season Presentation and celebrate what has been an incredible first season for the team.
As proud sponsors, it’s been a pleasure to follow the Cobras’ journey over the past year and see the hard work of the players, coaches and parents pay off.
The team couldn’t have asked for a much better start, winning their first nine league games before earning a place in Division 1 for the Winter League. They went on to finish a very respectable 4th overall, narrowly missing out on the runners-up spot after a three-team playoff.
Their cup run was equally impressive, reaching the quarter-finals before being edged out 3-2 by Premier Division side DL Lions.
The Spring League brought another strong campaign. Despite coming up against eventual champions Carlton Silva, the Cobras bounced back to finish 3rd, missing promotion to the Premier Division by just a single point.
There were plenty of memorable moments throughout the season, including a dramatic 3-2 win over Ruddington with the last kick of the game, lifting the NG Tournament trophy, and finishing the season on a high by winning the Filey Cup, sealing the final with an incredible 9-0 victory.
While the results have been fantastic, what stands out most is the progress the team has made. It’s clear the players have grown in confidence, developed their skills and, most importantly, enjoyed every minute of playing together. As the team themselves summed it up, this season has been about making memories, learning to compete at a higher level and having fun.
Looking ahead, the Cobras have set themselves two clear goals for next season: achieving promotion to the Premier Division and continuing to improve as a team. After such a successful first year, there’s every reason to believe they can do just that.
A special mention also goes to the team’s captain, who summed up the season perfectly by saying their favourite memory was “winning the Filey Cup and having the best four-day weekend!”
